ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry said on Monday that management of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was necessary and it would bring benefit to both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Aizaz said this during the meeting between officials of the foreign affairs department of both Afghanistan and Pakistan. A six-member delegation headed by Afghanistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Karzai had arrived in Islamabad on Monday to hold talks with the government.
Sources said that the Pakistani side termed border management necessary to eliminate terrorism. Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary reportedly also said during the meeting that an immigration mechanism at the Pak-Afghan border was necessary to crush terrorism. He also said that border gates should not be established at the Torkham border only but at other crossing points as well. He added that both countries would benefit together due to border management. He also said that a proper border management mechanism will also aid in curbing smuggling across the border. On the other hand, Hekmat Karzai was of the opinion that both countries should prepare the border management mechanism with mutual consultation and communication.
